Where to Start: Year of Breath
Reset this new year with weekly breath prayers and reflections.
When the swirl of our weary world and the chaos of family life are loud, one thing is certain: Breath prayers come in clutch.
If you want to be more intentional about faith, but you’re unsure where to start, Year of Breath is for you.
If you want a little prayer structure but nothing high stakes, Year of Breath is for you.
Year of Breath is for those of us who could use a nudge to relax our shoulders, exhale, and take a minute to pray and reflect.
Year of Breath is a private, premium newsletter and community to give you mindful moments for the entire year.
Will you join us?
Each Sunday, Year of Breath will appear in your inbox with a breath prayer & reflection prompt.
It’s low pressure: You’ll have all week to integrate the short prayer into your days.
You’ll have all week to ponder a simple but thought-provoking mindful meditation rooted in the deep love of Christ.
And you’ll have a community, guided personally by me, to return to for intentional connection and accountability.
Since 2020, I’ve written, edited, designed, planned, and managed Liturgies for Parents on Instagram. It’s my heart to keep those liturgies and breath prayers free for everyone and anyone. It’s also important to me to keep these public care packages of prayer emails free for everyone.
How can you find time to pray when you can barely hear yourself think in the cacophony of family life?
By investing in yourself and the community of Year of Breath, you’re also helping us continue to reach people from all over and all walks of life, reminding them that God loves them and the kids in their lives.
Why Breath Prayers?
Breath prayers are short meditations to help you focus your body and mind on the One who gives each breath. Christians have used this contemplative practice of praying as you inhale and exhale for generations as a way to be still and know that God is God (see Psalm 46:10).
Breath prayers are integrated into both To Light Their Way and Every Season Sacred, and I hear from you over and over that when you don’t have the words to pray, you turn to breath prayer.
These simple prayers can act as an anchor, tethering you to contemplation and reflection throughout the week.
Don’t take my word for it…
Some of you have been so thoughtful and generous to pledge a paid subscription. Thank you for trusting me in this way.
A message from Katie, a reader like you:
In our overwhelming daily realities, it’s easy to become disconnected from who God has created us to be—fully human, with a connected heart, soul, mind, and body.
If parenting is a continual undoing, these breath prayers act as a tangible invitation to let God piece us back together, breath by breath.
You can say these prayers silently or repeat the words aloud. Whether you’re rocking a baby, helping with homework, or stuck in traffic, you can integrate these mindful moments into the rhythms of your day.
What is Year of Breath? A mini sanctuary in your inbox for weekly moments of stillness, reflection, and spiritual connection. I’m excited to curate a year-long exploration of breath prayers—simple yet powerful prayers that synchronize with the rhythm of your breath.
What's Inside Year of Breath:
Weekly Breath Prayers: A curated collection of breath prayers that provide peace and connection. Inspired by Scripture, each breath prayer is created to guide you through moments of stillness and mindfulness.
Prompts for Reflection: Thoughtfully crafted prompts (journal them, talk them out with a friend or spouse, use them in prayer) accompany each breath prayer. As we journey through the year, I hope you gain insights into your faith journey and can cultivate gentle rhythms of faith, even in your busy season of life.
Exclusive Book Content: As a subscriber to Year of Breath, you'll be part of my go-to community as I pray and prepare for my next book. You and your stories will color the contours of book three. You have a front-row seat to a very low-pressure focus group if you want it. Maybe you can help me settle on a title or book cover. I’m hopeful some Zoom chats might be in our future, too.
Connect Spiritually: Join a community of like-minded individuals on a shared journey. Experience the profound connection that comes from engaging in a collective, year-long exploration of breath prayers.

Fantastic, Dirty, Messy, Holy
I sign all my benedictions with this:
“May all your life — your fantastic, dirty, messy, holy life — be a prayer.”
As I’ve tried to write this, a seven-year-old yelled in my ear, a ten-year-old demanded help, a Goldendoodle gobbled leftovers from the table, and another seven-year-old kicked a keyboard.
If you’re looking for a guide who has it all together, I am not your person. But I am a mom to four kids who is trying to be awake to both the pain and joy in our world. I’m trying to be intentional about living into my values and raising my kids to love themselves, God, and others.
I’m a writer, and I’m married to a pastor. We’re fine, but we’re not exactly Scrooge McDuck swimming in gold coins. All of that to say: I don’t take a single one of your subscriptions for granted. I wouldn’t create something to just pocket your cash with an evil laugh like a cartoon villain.
I really hope Year of Breath will bring peace, thoughtfulness, and connection to your life.
Thank you for reading and for trusting me with your stories.
If you have a little extra, would you consider clicking the button below and being a founding member to cover scholarships for those who can’t purchase a subscription right now?
May all your life be a prayer,
PS: Questions? Leave a comment! And of course, I’d appreciate if you shared with a friend. There are group discounts available if you’d like to join with a small group or moms group. If budget is holding you back, contact me and we will figure out a way for you to join!
It is appropriate that you use the term “Parent” with the term “Rhythm.” A parent can be defined as “one who uses the rhythm method.”
(Come on…that’s funny!)
Since my sister introduced me to “To Light Their Way”, it’s shown up on multiple friend’s bedside tables. Thank you for guiding so many in prayer, reflection, and slowing.
