📖 March Reading Guide for Weary Souls
Every Season Sacred: Borrow this simple and free plan for this month.
TLDR: This story is about simplifying and having a plan — not laundry, really.
Until last weekend, our laundry room felt like an escape room—you know, one of those places in a strip mall that gives you a couple of clues and then leaves you to solve the mystery and get out alive. (Why do these exist?)
Anyway, every time one of us went to throw a load in the washer, we ventured into the abyss of piles of discarded socks, overflowing recycling bins, and bags full of out-grown kids’ clothes (that had been waiting to be donated for almost an entire year).
The room became our stash spot for everything. Dog food! Cushions from our outdoor patio furniture! Shin guards our son never wore!
We held our laundry baskets, navigated the terrain, and hoped to make it out in one piece.
This weekend, enough was enough. Six people in our family (and certain children who I swear go through 3-5 outfits per DAY) means a lot of laundry, and the little room off the kitchen just wasn’t functional.
So we did what grown-ups do and cleaned it out. We donated! We downsized!
And then…wouldn’t you know?
I could finally breathe.
The daily chore of doing laundry had felt so suffocating because there was just so much going on.
Suddenly, I didn’t feel like I had to escape from reality whenever I had to do laundry. Now, things had places!
What was overwhelming wasn’t so daunting anymore.
March Reading Plan
My new book, Every Season Sacred, has small chapters for each week of the year — but they aren’t dated (parents have enough pressure — we don’t need more deadlines!).Â
However: Some of you mentioned a reading plan would be helpful.
As I learned with our Craig family laundry adventures, sometimes knowing where to turn and when is less stressful.
So this free, downloadable one-page PDF is yours! Just click the download button below. Keep it on your phone or tablet — or print it out to throw on your fridge!
Each week in March, you’ll find *exactly* which page to turn to (and when) for timely short reflections, breath prayers, family conversation prompts, and shared liturgies.
It is specifically made for March 2024 and includes all the dates you need to know.Â
This month is a big month in the Christian calendar (Lent! Holy Week! Easter!), and all dates are noted here.
You’ll find prayers to borrow from To Light Their Way, too! (There’s even a prayer for St. Patrick’s Day!)
A Benediction As You Go
During this Lent season, may you and your family resist the pull of power, the appeal of complacency, and the call of violence.
In every temptation, may Christ help you and your family resist the rapture of greed and the charm of distraction in your real and complicated lives.
May the One who took on flesh and knows full well the aches of humanity help you resist the overture of anger and the draw to lethargy.
In this season, may Jesus be a guide in the wilderness. As you parent, may you remember that in Christ’s mercy, death has conquered death, and in this truth, you are made whole.
Until Next Time
May all your life be a prayer,

PS: Do you live in Laguna Beach, California, or Spokane, Washington? I’m speaking at events in your neck of the woods in April and would love to connect! Let me know. (And stay tuned for more info!)
Loving the guide! So helpful
I’m obsessed with this!! Thank you!
